Elon Musk Calls for 'Freedom' for Telegram Founder Durov

X owner Elon Musk called for the 'freedom' of Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov, who was reportedly detained at an airport in France.

It was reported that Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of the messaging app Telegram, was detained at the airport in France after arriving from Azerbaijan by private jet. Moscow also made a statement regarding the latest situation of the billionaire, who was born in Russia and has French citizenship. It was reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry is trying to clarify the situation regarding Durov’s detention in France.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova reminded that Western civil society organizations reacted to Russia’s blocking of Telegram in 2018 and said, “Do you think they will call on Paris this time and demand Durov’s release, or will they swallow their tongues?”

It was noted that #Durov was on France’s wanted list and that the request for his presence was made by the country’s department for combating crimes against minors.

While details about Durov’s current condition, who has a fortune of $15.5 billion according to Forbes, have not been shared, a call for ‘freedom’ came from X owner #Elon Musk. Musk called for the freedom of Durov, the arrested founder of Telegram, on the X social media platform.

In another post, Musk criticized European authorities. Quoting a post about Durov's detention, #Musk said: “POV: It's 2030 in Europe and you're being executed for liking a meme.”
