Biden Exits 2024 Election, Polymarket Predicts Kamala Harris as Leading Democratic Nominee

Following the announcement that President Joe Biden will withdraw from the 2024 election, the prediction market Polymarket now indicates an 81% probability that Vice President Kamala Harris will be the Democratic nominee at the upcoming national convention.

Polymarket Shows Kamala Harris as Democratic Favorite

On Sunday afternoon, President Biden declared he would not seek re-election as the Democratic contender against former Republican President Donald Trump. This decision forces the Democratic party to choose a new leading candidate to challenge Trump. Following Biden’s announcement, Polymarket, powered by Polygon, saw a flurry of new bets. Vice President Harris’s chances soared to 84% at 2:10 p.m. EDT on Sunday. However, by 2:41 p.m., her probability slightly decreased to 81%.

Another potential nominee, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, has a 12% chance. Both Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama stand at 4%, while California Governor Gavin Newsom holds a 3% chance at 2:41 p.m. These figures are expected to fluctuate significantly throughout the week and during the Democratic party’s selection process. Biden’s likelihood of being the nominee has plummeted to -1%.

As the Democratic Party gears up for an intense selection process, the prediction market reflects a dynamic landscape with Kamala Harris currently leading the pack. With significant fluctuations anticipated, the coming days will be crucial in shaping the final nominee. The party’s decision will ultimately determine the strength of their challenge against the Republican contender in the forthcoming election.

Harris, on the other hand, trails Trump in the general election predictions on Polymarket, holding a 28% chance of victory compared to Trump’s 66%.
