According to Foresight News, cLabs, the core developer of the Celo blockchain, has proposed using OP Stack for its Layer2 blockchain development. This decision comes after a community-approved governance vote last July, which confirmed Celo's migration from its current Layer1 network to Ethereum Layer2. The team has now decided to develop its Layer2 on OP Stack, a primary toolkit for developing chains in the Optimism ecosystem. Prior to this, the team conducted an eight-month evaluation and testing of various expansion technologies and software packages, including Arbitrum Orbit, ZK Stack of zkSync, and Polygon CDK. The company plans to deploy the Celo Layer 2 testnet in the summer of 2024, following another round of community voting.
In its proposal, cLabs stated that Celo's migration to OP Stack-based Layer2 will focus on maintaining the network's unique features while improving its performance. The proposed improvements include reducing the block time from 5 seconds to 2 seconds and increasing throughput by 50%.
