#BNBBhutanReserves Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a newly established Special Administrative Region (SAR), has announced plans to include digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Binance Coin (BNB) in its strategic reserves.
Key Highlights:
Strategic Reserve Inclusion: GMC aims to enhance its economic resilience by incorporating BTC, ETH, and BNB into its reserves, becoming one of the first regions globally to officially integrate digital assets into its reserve strategy.
Selection Criteria: The region prioritizes digital assets with high market capitalizations and deep liquidity, ensuring minimal price impact during trades. Additionally, only assets issued on mature and secure blockchains that allow for robust monitoring of on-chain transactions are considered.
Economic Development: Located at the crossroads of South Asia’s burgeoning economies, GMC seeks to leverage its geographical position to promote blockchain technology, attract businesses, and investors, thereby bolstering its economic stability.
Upcoming Discussions: In March 2025, GMC plans to hold a high-level meeting to discuss the strategic reserve of digital assets and establish an international advisory committee.
This initiative reflects Bhutan's progressive approach towards digital assets, building upon its previous involvement in Bitcoin mining. Since 2019, Bhutan’s state investment arm, Druk Holding & Investments (DHI), has mined over 13,000 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $750 million, placing Bhutan among the largest governmental Bitcoin holders globally.
