On January 3, 2009, exactly 16 years ago, the first Genesis Block was created on the Bitcoin network, containing the first 50 $BTC 🥳 This marks the official birth of the Bitcoin blockchain.
The Genesis Block is the first (zero) block of the blockchain. It’s a special case because it doesn’t reference any previous block. The Genesis Block contains a dated headline from The Times newspaper: “The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on the brink of the second bailout for banks.”
Just two years after its launch, Bitcoin's price hit $1.
