As of December 2024, Ethereum is preparing for its next major upgrade, known as the Prague-Electra or "Pectra" upgrade, scheduled for early 2025. This upgrade aims to enhance the network's scalability and efficiency by implementing several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs).
Key Features of the Pectra Upgrade:
Validator Stake Consolidation (EIP 7251): This proposal increases the maximum effective balance for validators from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH, allowing existing validators to consolidate their stakes.
Additional Enhancements: Pectra is expected to include a total of ten EIPs, focusing on various aspects of the Ethereum protocol to improve performance and user experience.
Following Pectra, the Ethereum development community is planning the "Fusaka" upgrade. While the exact timeline for Fusaka is yet to be determined, it is expected to incorporate further improvements, including the EVM Object Format (EOF) changes and other protocol enhancements.
These upgrades are part of Ethereum's ongoing roadmap to enhance scalability, security, and sustainability, ensuring the network continues to support the growing ecosystem of decentralized applications and services.
