Do Kwon, the creator of Terraform, will be extradited to the United States, according to Montenegrin Justice Minister Bojan Božović. The decision comes after a lengthy battle over Kwon’s extradition, with both the U.S. and South Korean governments seeking to take custody of him to face criminal charges related to the collapse of the Terra/Luna system in 2022.
Extradition Decision Follows Supreme Court Ruling
Božović stated that the decision to extradite Kwon to the U.S. was made after the country’s Supreme Court ruled that the conditions for approving an extradition had been met. The Ministry of Justice considered various factors, including the gravity of the criminal acts, the place of execution, and the citizenship of the requested person.
U.S. Bid Meets Extradition Criteria
According to the statement, the U.S. bid met the necessary criteria for extradition. This decision is the latest in a series of back-and-forth rulings on where Kwon should be sent. In August, the Appellate Court of Montenegro ruled that Kwon should be extradited to South Korea.
Ongoing Legal Fallout in the U.S.
The legal fallout from the Terra collapse continues in the U.S., with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently settling charges with Tai Mo Shan, a subsidiary of Jump Crypto. The company agreed to pay $123 million as part of the settlement, alleging that Tai Mo Shan sold LUNA as a security.
