Btrust Builders, in collaboration with Chaincode Labs, is issuing a final call for applications to the 2025 Builders January Cohort. This part-time, three-month, fully remote program is designed to identify and push passionate software developers in Africa to contribute to Bitcoin open-source software (₿OSS).

Applications are now open, and developers across the continent are encouraged to apply by December 27 2024.

This program is a unique opportunity for developers of all levels, whether seasoned or just beginning their Bitcoin journey, to gain the technical skills, mentorship, and guidance needed to contribute meaningfully to open-source Bitcoin and Lightning development.

Decentralizing Bitcoin Development

The ₿OSS program plays a critical role in advancing the decentralization of Bitcoin development by empowering African developers to become key contributors to the global Bitcoin ecosystem. By broadening the geographical and cultural base of contributors, Btrust Builders ensures Bitcoin remains resilient, inclusive, and innovative.

A Collaborative Effort to Build Sustainable Bitcoin Careers

Chaincode Labs, a leading Bitcoin research and development center, is the engine that drives the program’s technical curriculum and mentorship, while Btrust provides the primary support and resources to participants, ensuring their development journey is impactful and sustainable.

By the end of the cohort, participants will not only have improved technical competencies but will also be positioned to pursue funded, sustainable careers in open-source Bitcoin development, with grants and support from Btrust and other organizations.

What to Expect

The program offers:

Hands-On Learning: Participants will gain foundational and advanced skills in Bitcoin and Lightning, including building wallets, exploring peer-to-peer protocols, and tackling complex technical challenges.

Proof of Work: Over two months, participants will bring proof-of-concept projects to life, collaborate with ₿OSS maintainers, and gain professional coaching for the next steps in their careers.

Skill Development in C++ or Rust: Regardless of prior experience, participants will be supported to learn these critical languages for Bitcoin development.

● The program requires a commitment of at least 10+ hours per week and is designed for developers of all levels.

Why Apply? Btrust Builders is committed to creating opportunities for African developers to lead and innovate in Bitcoin open-source development.

This program offers: ● World-class mentorship from Bitcoin open-source contributors. ● A launchpad to build a sustainable, funded career in Bitcoin open-source development. ● And best of all, it’s completely free.
