Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake recently claimed that Solana’s golden age is over, with its advantages of fast transaction speed and low gas fees being surpassed by Ethereum Layer 2. Solana dominated the meme season craze due to these advantages, but Ethereum has not made significant ecological advancements, leading to its currency prices remaining stagnant.

Drake stated in a podcast that Ethereum Layer 2 surpasses Solana in terms of latency and throughput. He argued that Solana’s competitor is actually Ethereum’s Layer 2, not Layer 1 itself. Ethereum Layer 2 has shown its ability to scale horizontally and is estimated to be 100 times higher than Ethereum Layer 1 in throughput, with the potential to grow even more.

Solana, however, has adopted a strategy of concentrating all activity on a single server, which limits its throughput. Ethereum Foundation is investing in zkVMs projects, including zkRISC-V formal verification, Poseidon cryptanalysis, and L2beat for zkVMs.
