Some users live streamed their threats, linked to their cryptocurrency goals. A person once threatened to self-harm if their meme coin could not achieve a $25 million market cap. One example was a user livestreaming a gun being fired each time their coin’s value went up. The threat to public safety was accompanied by some users threatening to harm family members in the community.
Pudgy Penguins safety project manager Beau condemned the platform. Livestreaming is out of control. He stated that it must be immediately disabled. Nineteen community members chimed in, echoed emissions of this sentiment, and stated that a swift response is needed to stop any further damage.
Another concern has emerged in the form of financial scams. A student brazenly built $QUANT, raised $30,000 then ran a rug pull. It further eroded trust in the platform's status for moderating content effectively.
Moderation Efforts Face Scrutiny
Pump.fun executives defended their moderation policies, citing ongoing efforts to manage the growing platform. Alon, the pseudonymous leader of Pump.fun has assured users about its dedicated team working around the clock to address harmful content. Despite these assurances, critics argue that existing measures are insufficient.
Community members suggested potential solutions, including disabling the livestream feature entirely or implementing stricter moderation tools. However, opinions remain divided. While some view livestreams as a valuable tool for project visibility, others label the feature a pipeline of felonies.
