Coinspeaker Farcaster Unveils Update on Frames Ahead of Full Launch in 2025
Dan Romero, the co-founder of the Farcaster protocol, a decentralized platform for social media applications, has announced an update to Frames. This new protocol, dubbed Frames v2, will launch in 2025.
This news has excited many in the social media and Web3 communities. According to the announcement, the update will add new features, boosting user engagement and interaction on the Warpcast platform.
Frames: The Mini-Apps of Farcaster Network
Launched in January 2024, Frames introduced an innovative way to interact with external links and applications within the Warpcast app.
Frames empower users to perform various actions, such as minting Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), claiming tokens, and making transactions. Frames also help users read external blog posts and answer surveys, with the need to sign a transaction or exit the app.
Frames leverage Farcaster’s EdDSA authentication system, eliminating the risk of wallet drain. Its cryptographic signing also helps ensure resistance to spoofing.
Frames’ emergence allowed the Farcaster protocol to witness a massive 400% surge in daily active users at its peak. According to data, daily active users on the Farcaster network increased from 5,000 on January 28 to over 24,700 by February 3.
Farcaster’s popularity became boosted as Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is known to use the platform regularly. Buterin’s use marks an endorsement of the protocol within the Ethereum and SocialFi ecosystem.
According to Romero, the Farcaster ecosystem boasts over 5 million unique followers, 6 million reactions, and 2.8 million casts. This increased enthusiasm coincides with reduced activity on other SocialFi platforms such as Friend.Tech.
Daily transactions on Friend.Tech has plummeted by 96%, dropping from 540,000 to 20,000.
More Benefits Come With Frames v2
Even though it was initially successful, feedback showed that many areas need improvement, especially in functionality and user engagement. Frames v2 introduces a new, improved frame standard to address these user concerns.

This update will allow users to run full-screen applications directly in Warpcast.
Furthermore, Frames v2 will support interactive experiences, on-chain transactions, and real-time notifications, creating a better environment for developers and users.
Integrating blockchain features will also create new opportunities for decentralized applications, making Warpcast a more flexible platform for Web3 users. Romero highlighted that these new features are designed to make Frames an essential part of the Farcaster ecosystem.
Undoubtedly, Farcaster is positioning itself as a leader in decentralized social networking. It combines blockchain technology with an easy-to-use social media interface.
The platform aims to change how people interact online. If successful, Frames v2 will enhance this vision. Even though platforms like X, TikTok, and Facebook are more popular, Farcaster is attracting attention for its recent improvements and fresh ideas.
While attention in the broader crypto ecosystem has shifted to meme coins like Shiba Inu (SHIB) and dogwifhat (WIF), the expectation is that these defined upgrades will push Farcaster back to its high-performance days
