DETROIT TO ACCEPT CRYPTO FOR TAXES AND FEES IN 2025

Starting mid-2025, Detroit residents will have the option to pay taxes and city fees using cryptocurrency through a platform managed by PayPal.

This makes Detroit the largest U.S. city to embrace crypto for public payments. Mayor Mike Duggan emphasized the move as part of Detroit’s drive toward a tech-forward city.

Treasurer Nikhil Patel explained that the payment upgrade will enhance access for Detroiters, especially those unbanked, aligning with Detroit’s vision for increased transparency, civic engagement, and economic growth.

The city also invited blockchain entrepreneurs to pitch ideas for potential civic applications.
