Scam Sniffer reported on X that a phishing website is one of the first Etherscan search results on both Bing and DuckDuckGo. The security firm warned on its X platform that users could risk losing their assets. The firm also noted that phishing websites have increased in the past quarter as a victim lost over $520,000.
Security firm warns users of a phishing attack targeting Etherscan users
The Scam sniffer security firm warned DuckDuckGo and Bing users that it had spotted a phishing website on both search engines. The site is said to use a logo similar to Etherscan, which could confuse unsuspecting users. The website also reportedly describes the basics of the blockchain exploration platform and comes second to the legitimate Etherscan website on some search engine results.
The two websites are slightly different, as an extra dash is observed on the web address. The phishing website rewrites Etherscan as et-herscan and reportedly uses a phishing kit called “Angel Drainer.” According to Scam Sniffer, the phishing kit was also used to attack Ledger’s front end.

The firm stated that phishing websites are an evolved tactic and that a victim lost approximately $521,000 to the crypto phishing scam. The FBI also reported that crypto scams had increased by over 40% in 2023 compared to the previous year.
Other security firms and crypto platforms urge users to be cautious
Veritas Protocol, another security firm and Crypto exchange OKX, also echoed Scam Sniffer’s sentiments urging users to be cautious when identifying websites. The security firm also noted that phishing websites were convincing and made it easy for users to fall victim.
They asked their users to double-check the links before clicking on them, especially when handling digital assets. They stated that doing this would ensure they were using the intended site and protect their assets.

Scam Sniffer issued another warning about phishing scan ads on Etherscan earlier this year. The firm revealed the scam had led to the loss of a six-figure sum from a victim and held approximately $300,000 worth of Ethereum and other coins.
Scam Sniffer also reported that phishing scams often included paid advertisements, airdrops, and organic traffic. The firm added that phishing scams are often difficult to identify, and users should be careful about opening any suspicious links, especially on devices linked to their wallets.
