On September 6th, billionaire John Paulson said the Federal Reserve waited too long to cut interest rates, and he expects the central bank to lower rates in the coming months. The 68-year-old Paulson is one of the potential Treasury Secretary candidates if Trump is elected. He is known for his large short positions in mortgage-backed securities prior to the 2008 financial crisis. In an interview, Paulson stated, "My best forecast" would be that the federal funds rate will be "around 3%, or perhaps 2.5%" by the end of next year. He said the rise in real interest rates indicates the Federal Reserve is behind the curve in easing monetary policy.
