⛩ Chapter 18: The Warrior Who Refused To Die ⛩
⛩ Before Chapter 18 Begins—
The Land of LUNC was once ruled by the Red Candle Clan. For generations, traders and sorcerers feared their overwhelming power, and no one dared challenge their authority. Their influence spread across every corner of the market, leaving countless warriors crushed beneath their rule.
But everything changed when the Green Candle Alliance united. Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, and Special Grade traders joined forces and declared war against the Red Candle Clan. The battle shook the entire market, and what followed would become legend.
The Red Candle Clan was betrayed. Their battle plans were exposed, their strongholds fell one after another, and their empire collapsed into dust. When the war finally ended, only one survivor remained.
Malvros.
The final heir of the Red Candle Clan.
Now hunted by the Green Alliance, Malvros walks a path fueled by revenge. And somewhere deep within the shadows of the battlefield, that revenge is finally beginning to take shape.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The sky turned crimson.
Far above the battlefield, a gigantic spider-web-shaped curse candle spread across the heavens. At its center burned a glowing red "-10%" that illuminated everything beneath it with an ominous blood-red light. The sheer size of the curse was enough to make even experienced sorcerers freeze in fear.
The web slowly descended.
Then it accelerated.
CRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
Its enormous shadow swallowed the battlefield whole. Mountains, trees, and shattered terrain disappeared beneath it as the curse rushed downward with terrifying speed.
Luncius looked up.
For the first time since the battle began, he knew there was no escape. No amount of speed could outrun it. No shield could block it. No strategy could save him.
Only one option remained.
To face it head-on.
Green curse energy erupted from his body.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
A pillar of brilliant green light exploded into the sky, pushing against the crimson darkness. The battlefield trembled violently as waves of energy surged outward, throwing debris in every direction.
"📈 RESURRECTION MARKET!!"
Green flames wrapped around his body like a living storm. His wounds began healing, his muscles expanded, and his spear radiated an intense glow that rivaled the sun itself.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
His scream echoed across the battlefield.
Far away, Auri witnessed everything.
The giant red web reflected inside her trembling eyes. Her knees weakened as she realized the horrifying truth. There was no way to escape the attack.
If she ran toward Luncius, she would die with him.
If she retreated, she would abandon him.
And if both frontline fighters fell here, the battle would be lost.
Her heart pounded against her chest.
THUMP.
THUMP.
THUMP.
There was no time left to think.
"LUNCIUS-KUNNNNNNNN!!"
BOOOOOOOM!!
Green energy exploded beneath her feet as she launched herself forward. She pushed her body beyond its limits, desperately trying to reach him before the curse descended.
Faster.
Faster.
FASTER.
But then Luncius turned his head.
For a brief moment, their eyes met across the battlefield. Despite the chaos surrounding him, despite the death falling from the sky above, Luncius smiled.
Auri's eyes widened.
"No..."
Luncius gripped his spear.
Green lightning crackled around its blade as curse energy condensed into a single point. The weapon vibrated violently, unable to contain the power flowing through it.
KRRRRRRZZZZZZZZTTTTTT!!
Then he threw it.
THROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The spear shot forward like a green meteor. It pierced through the battlefield with such speed that the air itself exploded behind it.
"AURI!!"
The spear struck her jacket.
FWOOOOOOOOOOSH!!
Before she could react, the force carried her away from the battlefield. The world blurred around her as she was dragged through the air at unbelievable speed.
"No! NO!!"
Tears flooded her eyes.
"LUNCIUS-KUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!"
She reached her hand toward him.
But Luncius was already becoming smaller.
Smaller.
Smaller.
Until he was nothing more than a distant green light beneath the giant crimson curse.
Then the spider web arrived.
Malvros watched from afar as the massive "-10%" symbol glowed brighter than ever before.
"Goodbye, Luncius."
The curse crashed into the battlefield.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!
The world disappeared.
Red and green energy collided in a cataclysmic explosion that shook the entire Land of LUNC. The ground shattered apart, enormous cracks spread across the battlefield, and a towering cloud of smoke rose more than twenty meters into the air.
Everything vanished beneath the destruction.
Silence followed.
Only rain remained.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Far away, Luncius's spear finally slammed into the Green Alliance Defensive Line.
BOOOOOOOM!!
The weapon embedded itself deep into the stone wall. Auri crashed to the ground and stared back toward the battlefield.
Her body trembled.
"Luncius-kun..."
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
Memories flashed before her eyes.
Luncius burning food while trying to cook.
Luncius making ridiculous jokes.
Luncius laughing with the team after missions.
Luncius promising they would survive together.
The memories came one after another.
Her voice grew weaker.
"Luncius-kun..."
Sniff...
Hic...
Sniff...
Rain began falling from the dark clouds above.
PAT.
PAT.
PAT.
PAT.
Meanwhile, Malvros slowly walked through the destruction.
His boots sank into the mud with every step. The battlefield that moments ago had been filled with life was now reduced to a graveyard of shattered stone and smoke.
SPLASH.
SPLASH.
SPLASH.
He eventually reached the center of the explosion.
There, lying within the massive spider-web-shaped crater, was Luncius.
His arms were gone.
Both legs had been severed.
His ribs were exposed.
Blood mixed with the rainwater around him.
There was no breathing.
No heartbeat.
No movement.
Malvros stared at him silently for several moments.
"...Not too hard to kill after all."
Yet strangely, there was no joy in his voice.
Only respect.
He slowly raised his head toward the storm clouds.
"For someone born from the Green Alliance..."
"...you fought like a true warrior."
With that, Malvros turned away.
His next targets were Auri and Kira.
The battle was finally over.
Or so he thought.
Far beyond the battlefield, beyond the rain, beyond life itself, Luncius suddenly opened his eyes.
A brilliant white light surrounded him.
FWOOOOOOOOOOSH...
"Huh...?"
There was no pain.
No battlefield.
No sound.
Only endless white space stretching in every direction.
"W-Where am I?"
Then a familiar voice echoed behind him.
"Yo."
Luncius froze.
His eyes widened instantly.
Slowly, he turned around.
Standing there was a man he had not seen in years.
A warm smile rested on his face.
His hand waved casually.
"How are you, my son?"
Tears instantly streamed down Luncius's cheeks.
"DADDDDDDD!!!"
He ran forward and embraced him.
For the first time in a long time, Luncius felt safe.
And for the first time since the battle began, he allowed himself to cry.
Luncius threw himself into his father's arms.
For a moment, he forgot about the battlefield.
He forgot about Malvros.
He forgot about the pain.
All he could feel was the warmth he had missed for so many years.
"Dad..."
His voice trembled.
"I couldn't save everyone."
Tears streamed down his face.
"I wasn't strong enough."
"I tried..."
"I really tried..."
His father remained silent for a moment before gently placing a hand on his head.
The same way he used to when Luncius was a child.
"You know..."
His father smiled softly.
"When you were little, you would always come home crying."
Luncius looked up.
His father chuckled.
"You'd lose a race."
"You'd trip over your own feet."
"You'd fail at something."
"And every single time, you would tell me the world was ending."
Despite his tears, Luncius let out a small laugh.
His father laughed too.
"But the next day..."
"You always stood back up."
The white world around them shimmered.
Luncius lowered his head.
"This is different."
"No it isn't."
His father's voice became firm.
"You think being strong means never falling?"
"You think being a warrior means winning every battle?"
Luncius remained silent.
His father pointed toward his chest.
"The strongest people are not the ones who never fail."
"They are the ones who keep moving forward after failure."
Luncius clenched his fists.
"But I died."
The words felt heavy.
Painful.
Real.
His father smiled.
"Then stand up again."
Luncius froze.
"What?"
"Stand up again."
His father stepped forward.
Rain began appearing within the white world.
The image of Auri crying appeared before them.
"Luncius-kun..."
Another image appeared.
Kira struggling to stand.
Another appeared.
Vex watching the battlefield.
Another.
The Green Alliance soldiers.
All of them fighting.
All of them hoping.
All of them believing.
His father looked directly into his eyes.
"Tell me, son."
"If you stay here with me..."
"Who will protect them?"
Luncius's eyes widened.
"If you give up now..."
"Who will carry their hopes?"
The images continued appearing.
Auri crying.
Kira bleeding.
Vex waiting.
The battlefield burning.
His father smiled proudly.
"When I look at you..."
"I don't see a boy who failed."
"I see a man who protected everyone until his very last breath."
Tears fell from Luncius's eyes once more.
"Dad..."
His father slowly began turning into green particles.
"No..."
Luncius reached toward him.
"No!"
His father continued smiling.
There was no sadness on his face.
Only pride.
"I've watched every step of your journey."
"And do you know what?"
Luncius shook.
"What?"
His father laughed.
"I'm proud of you."
The words hit harder than any attack Malvros had ever landed.
Luncius's body froze.
For years...
Those were the words he wanted to hear.
His father pointed toward the distant light.
"Now go."
"The people waiting for you need their hero."
The particles drifted into the wind.
"Dad!"
"And Luncius..."
His father's voice echoed one final time.
"The Green Light never dies."
FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!!
The white world shattered.
Luncius's eyes snapped open.
A heartbeat echoed across the battlefield.
THUMP.
Then another.
THUMP.
Then another.
THUMP.
Green curse energy exploded from the crater.
And somewhere far away...
Meanwhile...
Malvros continued walking through the rain.
SPLASH.
SPLASH.
SPLASH.
The battlefield had fallen silent. The warrior who stood before him moments ago now lay dead within the crater behind him. As far as Malvros was concerned, the battle was already over.
Far ahead, he spotted Auri.
She remained on her knees beside the Green Alliance Defensive Line. Her shoulders trembled as tears mixed with the rainwater running down her face.
"Luncius-kun..."
Her voice was barely a whisper now.
Malvros stopped several meters away.
His red eyes looked down at her coldly.
"You should have run."
Auri slowly raised her head.
Her eyes were red from crying.
"I hate you..."
Malvros remained silent.
"I hate you..."
The rain intensified.
PAT.
PAT.
PAT.
PAT.
"You took everything from us."
For a brief moment, Malvros looked toward the dark sky.
"So did your Alliance."
The battlefield became quiet again.
Then Malvros slowly raised his hand.
Dark red curse energy gathered around his fingers. The ground beneath him cracked apart as enormous amounts of cursed energy flooded the area.
KRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
A dragon shadow hand sign formed.
"Hash Drake."
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The shadows beneath Malvros exploded.
A gigantic mechanical blockchain dragon emerged from the darkness. Its body was forged from red metallic scales covered in glowing market symbols. Chains rattled around its neck while crimson energy leaked from the gaps in its armor.
The dragon's eyes opened.
ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR!!!
The sound shook the battlefield.
Hash Drake lowered its head toward Auri.
Its mouth opened.
Inside, an enormous sphere of red curse energy began forming.
FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH...
The attack continued growing.
Larger.
Brighter.
Deadlier.
Auri looked up.
She didn't move.
She didn't run.
There was nothing left to fight for.
Hash Drake's energy sphere reached its maximum size.
Malvros lowered his hand.
"Erase her."
The dragon fired.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
A massive beam of red curse energy tore across the battlefield.
But at that exact moment—
A green light appeared behind Malvros.
The rain stopped.
The wind stopped.
Even Hash Drake's beam seemed to slow.
Malvros smiled.
The smile slowly spread across his face.
"You really are hard to kill."
A massive green pillar erupted behind him.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The entire battlefield turned green.
The clouds above split apart.
The rain evaporated instantly.
Auri's eyes widened.
"L-Luncius...?"
Standing within the center of the light was a familiar figure.
His body had been completely restored.
Green curse energy flowed around him like a raging ocean.
His eyes glowed brighter than ever before.
His spear floated beside him.
For the first time during the battle...
Malvros felt excitement.
Finally.
A worthy opponent.
Luncius slowly stepped forward.
Every step shattered the ground beneath him.
CRACK.
CRACK.
CRACK.
Green flames erupted from his body.
His spear returned to his hand.
The battlefield trembled.
Malvros laughed.
"So death couldn't stop you."
Luncius lowered his head.
His grip tightened.
The memory of his father echoed inside his mind.
Show them why the Green Light never dies.
Slowly...
Luncius raised his head.
His eyes burned with determination.
"Malvros..."
The green energy around him exploded outward.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The force pushed Hash Drake backward.
The clouds completely vanished.
The battlefield transformed into a sea of green light.
"MAAAALLLVROOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!"
His scream echoed across the entire Land of LUNC.
The spear glowed.
The battlefield glowed.
Even the heavens glowed.
For the first time since the war began...
The Green Light had become brighter than the Red.
Far away inside Green Alliance Headquarters...
Vex stared at the battlefield through a crystal monitoring screen.
The screen trembled violently from the energy output.
His eyes widened.
Then a smile slowly appeared.
"He came back."
The officers around him stood frozen.
One of them whispered.
"Impossible..."
Vex crossed his arms.
"No."
A confident grin spread across his face.
"That's our frontline warrior."
Back on the battlefield...
Auri stared at Luncius.
Tears streamed down her face once again.
But this time...
They were tears of joy.
"Luncius-kun..."
The chapter ended with green lightning tearing across the heavens as Luncius pointed his spear directly at Malvros.
And for the first time...
The heir of the Red Candle Clan stopped smiling.
