According to PANews, a public official from Cheongju City Government in South Korea has been sentenced to five years in prison for embezzling public funds. The Cheongju District Court handed down the sentence after finding the official guilty of misappropriating 600 million Korean won (approximately $427,800) over a period of seven years, starting in January 2017.

The court revealed that the official used the embezzled funds to invest in cryptocurrencies and stocks, as well as to pay off personal debts.
