🚹 Hackers Hacked Macdonald's Instagram and Stole $700k! 💰

Hackers broke into McDonald’s 🍔 official Instagram account and used it to promote a fake cryptocurrency 💰, stealing $700,000.

A screenshot online showed McDonald’s Instagram with a caption saying: “Sorry, you’ve just been rug pulled by India_X_Kr3w. Thanks for the $700,000 in Solana 💾.” This message was seen by over 5.1 million followers and included an emoji of the Indian flag 🇼🇳.

McDonald’s said they were “aware of an incident affecting our social media accounts earlier today. We’ve fixed the issue and apologize for any offensive language posted.” In cryptocurrency terms, a “rug pull” is a scam where people create a fake coin, hype it up 🚀, and then take all the money, leaving investors with worthless tokens.

Usually, scammers promote the fake coin on social media đŸ“± and crypto forums, creating excitement and urging people to invest before the value increases. Once they gather enough money by linking the fake coin to known cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, they withdraw the money 💰, making the value drop to zero. The scammers then delete their social media accounts, making it hard for investors to find them and get their money back.

The hackers said they used McDonald’s account to promote a fake meme coin called “GRIMACE” on the Solana network, a platform for decentralized cryptocurrencies. In just 30 minutes, the fake token’s value went from zero to $25 million đŸ’„ before crashing. Guillaume Huin, a senior marketing director at McDonald’s, also had his social media accounts hacked, with posts promoting the fake coin. These posts were later deleted.

Grimace is the big purple character 🟣 created by Hackers for their marketing.
