Dual-income families ultimately have to yield to the elderly today. Both of us got home around nine-thirty, and as soon as we entered the door, we heard the baby crying loudly, probably because I had been soothing him to sleep recently, and he wasn't used to me not being home. We quickly went to take over, and saw that my mother-in-law was in a very bad mood, questioning us why we came home so late. My husband usually gets off work at eight and takes over an hour to commute, so he usually gets home around this time, but recently he has been carpooling with colleagues and sometimes gets home at nine. I usually seldom stay out this late except for social events, and I can basically manage to give the baby a bath and put him to sleep, but today I was late due to some matters and had mentioned it in advance, yet we came home to a storm. She said she hadn't stopped all day and hadn’t eaten, and my husband suggested ordering takeout for her, but as soon as money was mentioned, she exploded. I directly went to close the door to soothe the baby, and I heard her bang the door as she went out. Previously, it was easier with both grandparents helping with the baby, but now my father-in-law has gone back to his hometown for a week to get dental work done, and my mother-in-law is exhausted from taking care of the baby. In the past, when encountering such situations, my husband would confront his mother, and I would also care, but after these three months of the 'free nanny' phase since moving, our mindset has changed. Today, my husband only emphasized that we got home at the same time, not that we came back together after going out to play, and I didn’t say anything, just soothing the child. Then we changed the bedding, while complaining about the in-laws; they complain when together and think of each other when apart. After venting, we just took it as a joke, and nothing major happened. After my mother-in-law came back, she said that getting angry was because taking care of the child was tiring, and we quickly agreed. Then we divided the household chores, and after finishing, I reflected on how unconsciously I've learned to yield to the elderly, accepting their negative emotions. In dual-income families, everyone has it tough, and we are all growing and changing. We must cherish each moment as we go along.
