According to Odaily, David Hoffman, founder of Bankless, recently shared his views on the Ethereum development priorities on the X platform. Hoffman stated that Ethereum development has prioritized Layer 2 (L2) execution over Layer 1 (L1) execution for more than two years. He argued that this focus has come at the expense of L1 execution, which has lagged behind Moore's Law. In contrast, L2 has benefited from growth and valuation subsidies that it should not have received from L1.

Hoffman emphasized the need to reprioritize L1 execution work. He agreed with Max Resnick's perspective that the hardware requirements for L1 should be equivalent to the 'latest two generations of MacBook Pro.' This approach, according to Hoffman, aligns with the social contract of individual stakers and would significantly enhance the accessibility of Ethereum L1 to over ten times more users at a low cost. He acknowledged that the counterargument to this proposal is that the Ethereum ecosystem would need to reorganize around less synchronous composability. However, he believes that the growing L1 execution would reduce the urgency of addressing this issue.

Hoffman concluded by stating that a rollup-centric Ethereum is the correct roadmap and urged the community to face the challenges head-on.
