According to a recent report by MV Global, DeSci is expected to see significant growth by 2025, driven by practical Meme coins.
DeSci involves integrating blockchain technology into scientific research, aiming to revolutionize the traditional scientific ecosystem through increased transparency, decentralization, and collaboration. The report emphasizes that while such concepts are not new, the focus and scope of these initiatives have changed. Initially, most projects focused on research funding through DAOs.
Notable examples include VitaDAO, HairDAO, and AxonDAO, which remain influential players in the DeSci space. However, since then, the industry has undergone significant changes and is showing a trend of diversification. The report highlights around 30 active projects with various use cases, including research funding, health data management, and open-source research initiatives. It points out that this diversification reflects the increasing maturity and adaptability of the DeSci ecosystem.
The report notes that two projects, Rifampicin and Urolithin A, have gained significant attention, achieving market capitalizations of approximately $73 million and $59 million, respectively. These tokens were launched through the Pump.Science platform and, according to MV Global's assessment, offer more utility than traditional Meme coins. MV Global expects Pump.Science to achieve large-scale expansion by 2025, with at least 10 projects expected to have market capitalizations exceeding $100 million by the end of the year.
MV Global also predicts that health data management and collaborative open-source research will see significant growth by 2025. Projects like Hippocrat, which empowers individuals to control their health data, and ResearchCoin, aimed at building a 'GitHub for scientific research', are seen as promising. Both projects are expected to reach a market valuation of at least $200 million by 2025.
