According to Foresight News, South Korea's Minister of Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min issued a position statement and resigned. Lee Sang-min stated that he failed to align with public opinion and assist the president well, and thus felt a heavy sense of responsibility, expressing his apologies to the nation.
Previously, Lee Sang-min sparked controversy with his remarks supporting the state of emergency during an urgent parliamentary inquiry held after the emergency situation. In February last year, Lee Sang-min was suspended following impeachment by the National Assembly over the 'Itaewon incident,' becoming the first state councilor in South Korean constitutional history to be impeached. However, in July of the same year, the Constitutional Court dismissed the impeachment case brought against Lee Sang-min by the National Assembly, and he subsequently returned to his position.
