According to reports from Wu, the blockchain security company Scam Sniffer has issued a warning about a new type of scam that combines fake X accounts, counterfeit Telegram groups, and malicious verification bots, targeting the theft of users' crypto assets.
Scammers guide users to join Telegram groups through impersonated X accounts of well-known cryptocurrency industry influencers, and then require verification through a fake 'OfficiaISafeguardBot'. This bot injects malicious code via PowerShell, running crypto-stealing malware to obtain users' private keys and steal assets.
Scam Sniffer states that this is the first time this combination of scam patterns has been observed, with multiple cases of private keys being stolen due to such malware recorded so far.
