About Ontology (ONT)

Ontology is a decentralized public blockchain network focused on identity security and data solutions, primarily in Web3. The independent blockchain network reportedly provides a development platform from which decentralized projects can launch and that offers high throughput and low transaction costs.  

The network’s underlying architecture also allows for cross-chain communication and interoperability for any independent blockchain developed on the Ontology platform. The network and its native cryptocurrency, ONT, were both launched in 2018.

ONT is used mainly as the digital asset validators stake in order to be rewarded for taking part in Onotology’s network consensus. ONT price is updated and available in real time on Binance.

  1. What is ONT Used For?

    ONT cryptocurrency is used fundamentally as a staking coin for validators on the Ontology network, who are charged with the task of validating and confirming transactions in order to create new blocks to be added to the transaction chain recorded on the Ontology blockchain.

    ONT is also used as a governance token and is staked in the network in order to allow token holders to vote on and propose updates or changes to the network. There is a second token, Ontology Gas (ONG),  in the Ontology ecosystem which serves more so to support built-in-app transactions.

    Two types of nodes exist within the network’s architecture — consensus and candidate nodes. As their name suggests, consensus nodes are responsible for consensus, as well as recording and validating transactions. Candidate nodes, on the other hand, are more or less synchronization nodes responsible for ordering the transactions validated by consensus nodes.

    The network consensus model powers security and consensus on the Ontology network, working inherently to reward nodes for their ONT stake as opposed to processing power like some other consensus mechanisms.
