SCAM ALERT REMINDER: Attention Bittensor Community
A quick reminder for all to stay vigilant against scammers. Anyone other than OTF claiming that they can recover your at-risk TAO funds, running a DAO vote, or anything else of this nature should be considered as a scammer.
Any party that makes claims or requests such as the below are scammers: “We can recover your funds” "We are KYC service providers for Bittensor" "We are helping Bittensor with arbitration process" “We can migrate your account” “We are from support to help you” “I am Const/Shib/etc. from OTF” “Click on this link to get help” “Click on this link to start the recovery process” or “Provide your mnemonic or seed phrase”
To make things perfectly clear: OTF will NEVER ask you for your wallet mnemonic or seed phrase. Also, OTF will NEVER ask you to provide any private information. We encourage you to report such attempts in the various community channels so others are aware and are alerted to these scamming attempts.
Dear Bittensor Community, Contributors, and TAO Holders
The Opentensor Foundation (OTF) has created a tool to transfer your at-risk TAO funds to a new secure wallet.
We are currently in the process of testing the tool and documenting it. Community Q&A Call on Discord OTF will hold a demo and a Q&A call on July 7, 2024 5:00 PM US Eastern Time.
The call will take place on Discord and will be recorded. During the call we will demonstrate how to use this tool to transfer your at-risk TAO funds to a new secure wallet.
Bittensor Community, Contributors, and TAO Holders,
The OTF team is working diligently towards securing at-risk TAO funds before restoring the normal chain operations. In the meantime, anyone other than OTF claiming that they can recover your at-risk TAO funds should be considered a SCAMMER.
Any party that makes claims or requests such as the below are scammers:
“We can recover your funds” “We can migrate your account” “We are from support to help you” “I am Const/Shib/anyone else from OTF” “Click on this link to get help” “Click on this link to start the recovery process” or “Provide your mnemonic or seed phrase”
To make things perfectly clear: We will never ask you for your mnemonic or seed phrase, or ask you to provide any private information. There are NO DAOs, Airdrops, votings, or anything else of this nature unless you see this specific account posting about it.
We encourage you to report such attempts in the various community channels so others are aware and alert to these scamming attempts.
We are committed to resuming normal operations of the Bittensor blockchain as swiftly as possible.
Our top priority is to ensure the safety and integrity of the system, ensuring that no additional wallets are compromised and no further funds are put at risk. We are continuing to work on developing a mechanism for securing at-risk funds.
Yesterday at 7:41 PM UTC, we took the decision to place the Opentensor Chain Validators behind a firewall and entered safe-mode on Subtensor due to an attack that affected multiple participants in the Bittensor community.
We have put together a comprehensive post-mortem including remediation and next steps on Medium:
Weight copying fixed with "Commit Reveal". See the developer doc https://t.co/Cg8NEt7QfY.
Dividends to subnet validator are now better correlated to the subnet miner's performance, with "Consensus-based weights". See a comprehensive blog: https://t.co/7tj52eULql
Plus, new “child” hotkeys are boosting security for subnets and validators.
