Entrepreneur Elon Musk paid tribute to Kabosu, the Shiba Inu dog behind the Dogecoin meme, who passed away earlier today. Musk posted a picture of the angel-winged Harambe gorilla hugging the legendary dog among ethereal clouds. He stated that Doge has "ascended to heaven" to be with its "friend" Harambe.

Following Musk's post, Dogecoin (DOGE) spiked over 4% before paring some gains, while Shiba Inu (SHIB) added nearly 3%, although these gains were short-lived.

Kabosu, who passed away at 19, was adopted by Atsuko Sato in 2008 and became a social media sensation in 2010, inspiring the Doge meme and the Dogecoin cryptocurrency in 2013. Dogecoin's popularity skyrocketed in 2021, heavily promoted by Musk.

Harambe, the gorilla who captured the online community's hearts in 2016, was shot after grabbing a three-year-old boy in his enclosure. The gorilla became a major meme, with hashtags like #JusticeForHarambe, and was featured alongside icons like David Bowie and Prince.

In May 2021, a photo of Harambe was even auctioned as a non-fungible token.
