According to Odaily, the European Union is set to issue a warning to Apple, demanding that the company open its highly secure iPhone operating system to competitors or face substantial fines. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that EU regulators, under the new Digital Markets Act, will announce that Cupertino-based Apple must comply with stringent new rules to make its operating system compatible with other technologies. Although this announcement is just a step away from a formal investigation, the EU aims to compel Apple to redesign its services to allow competitors access to the iPhone operating system. Should Apple fail to comply, the EU may later decide to launch a formal investigation, which could ultimately result in fines of up to 10% of Apple's global annual revenue.
