According to Cointelegraph: A counterfeit version of Rabby Wallet, a popular crypto wallet application, is allegedly causing losses for users who downloaded it from the Apple App Store. The crypto community expressed concerns as the fake app continues to remain on the App Store, four days after being flagged.
On February 16, the team behind DeBank's Rabby Wallet confirmed all apps present on the Apple App Store were fake, noting their official app is currently under review. The fraudulent application is listed as "Rabby Wallet & Crypto Solution," produced by "Solution Development."
A Reddit user, u/manolodf, started a thread on February 18 to warn others about the bogus wallet app, even sharing screenshots of users who had reportedly lost funds. Some users claimed to have been scammed for as much as $5,000, raising questions about the security and vetting of applications in Apple's ecosystem.
An NFT collector reported seeing their wallets drained by the fake app after it imported their seed phrase. The user even provided an Ethereum address that allegedly belongs to the hacker, which held just under 14 ETH (about $40,000) at the time of reporting.
This isn't the first instance of Rabby Wallet's imitation being listed on the Apple App Store. Similar incidents also occurred in October and December 2023. These repeated security breaches raise concerns about the robustness of screening processes in place in Apple's app review system.
