A person who bought Bitcoin at the start of this year may have seen a growth of at least 152.1% in its value. It’s impressive, isn’t it? Recently, Bitcoin achieved a crucial milestone of $100K. Currently, the market shows an extremely bullish outlook. Reports indicate that long-term investors are highly enthusiastic about the achievements the asset has made in the recent past. 

It’s time to shoot that vital question: who are the top ten holders of Bitcoin this year? Curious to know their names. Read on! Some of the names may leave you surprised, that’s for sure!  

BTC Holdings: A General Overview 

With an overall holding of 1,305,587 BTC (that is, at least 6.21% of the total BTC supply), ETFs remain the category that holds the highest number of BTC. Public companies, with 529,558 BTC, and Countries, with 575,911 BTC, follow. Interestingly, Private companies have over 366,738 BTC, and DeFi have at least 155,936 BTC. Additionally, BTC Mining Companies own over 84,008 BTC. 

Top Ten BTC Holders in 2024

Here are the top ten holders of 2024: 

US Spot ETFs

There are at least 12 spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US. Collectively, these funds hold at least 1,104,534 BTC. 

Satoshi Nakamoto 

Though the US Spot ETFs surpassed Nakamoto in terms of BTC holdings, the founder of Bitcoin still remains a strong holder in the second position, with 1,100,000 BTC.  

Binance 

Popular crypto exchange Binance remains in the third position. It has over 633,000 BTC. Interestingly, it is not the only exchange in the top ten list. 

MicroStrategy 

As said before, public companies hold more than 575,911 BTC. The holdings of MicroStrategy account for at least 76.23% of the total holdings of public companies, around 439,002 BTC, valued at $46,733,453,057. This allows the company to stand strong in the fourth position in the list of top holders.  

US Government 

As mentioned earlier, countries own over 529,558 BTC. The US government, with a holdings of 207,189 BTC, makes up at least 39.12% of the total holdings of countries.

Chinese Government 

The Chinese government, giving a tough competition to the US, remains at the sixth position. With a holding of 194,000 BTC, China makes at least 36.63% of the total BTC holdings of countries. 

Bitfinex 

It is another crypto exchange on the list. It has over 184,027 BTC. 

Kraken 

It is the third major exchange on the list of the top ten BTC holders. It holds approximately 158,959 BTC. 

Block One 

As noted earlier, private companies hold more than 366,738 BTC – at least 1.746% of the 21 million BTC tokens. With 140,000 BTC holdings, Block One makes up nearly 38.17% of the total BTC holdings of private companies.  

Robinhood 

In the tenth position, it is again an exchange – Robinhood. It holds as many as 142,361 BTC.
