Altman introduced several new updates aimed at expanding the platform’s global reach. The announcements included the launch of World Chain, a new Ethereum-secured Layer 2 blockchain. This blockchain aims to support millions of users, enhancing the efficiency and scalability of the platform.

Furthermore, they revealed the updated version of the biometric Orb device, along with partnerships with popular apps such as FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom.

Since its launch in July 2023, World has offered its digital identity service called World ID. This service helps verify users' identity and humanity online, distinguishing humans from automated bots.

Users who provide biometric data through an iris scan receive a digital passport and cryptocurrency WLD. The platform reports over 10 million sign ups across 160 countries, indicating strong global interest.

New Orb Biometric Device with Enhanced Capabilities

World introduced an updated version of its Orb biometric device. The new Orb is smaller, more efficient, and features Nvidia-powered hardware. This makes it five times more powerful than its predecessor. The company stated that these devices would soon be available in self-service kiosks in select markets.

World App Version 3.0 and Expanded Services

The World App is also getting an update to Version 3.0. This upgrade will allow users to manage their World ID credentials more effectively. Additionally, the app will provide access to new services like World Pay, a decentralized payment system, and World Chat, a messaging tool designed for secure communications.

In conjunction with its biometric developments, World launched World Chain, its Ethereum-based Layer 2 blockchain. The blockchain has reportedly achieved 15 million registrations globally on its first day of launch.

The firm claims this makes World Chain one of the largest human verification blockchains currently available, underscoring the platform’s rapid expansion and adoption worldwide.
