Telegram CEO criticizes arrest as TON climbs
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov addressed his community today for the first time since his August imprisonment. He said French police detained and questioned him for four days.

Durov said the arrest surprised him since he has always followed the French administration.

Durov said that the authorities held him directly liable for third parties' Telegram abuse. However, he said he wasn't aware of any government investigations into the site.

Durov said the authorities should have charged him over Telegram.

"Using laws from the pre-smartphone era to charge a CEO with crimes committed by third parties on the platform he manages is a misguided approach."

He also stressed Telegram's commitment to user privacy, citing Russia and Iran.

We're not doing this for money, therefore we'll exit markets that don't fit our values. We aim to uphold and defend fundamental human rights, especially in regions where they are infringed."

TON's price rose roughly 4% in 24 hours. Since Durov's imprisonment, TON has seen many outages and token decreases on its blockchains.

Durov's remarks might boost the overall TON market, even if he didn't say whether the authorities let him leave France. In recent hours, Notcoin (NOT) and DOGS (DOGS) have rebounded.
