The integration of Flare with Polyhedra’s zkBridge DVN has been approved by the Polyhedra community. With the help of this integration, Flare developers will be able to use LayerZero to create secure and efficient cross-chain apps while still taking use of ZK proofs’ cryptographic guarantees.

One of LayerZero’s Decentralized Verifier Networks (DVNs) is zkBridge, a trustless, efficient, and secure cross-chain interoperability protocol. It has verified over 20 million cross-chain transactions successfully and supports over 30 layer-1 and layer-2 networks. In order to allow a prover to effectively persuade the receiver chain that a certain state transition occurred on the sender chain, zkBridge leverages zkSNARKs. Since only one honest validator set member is needed for bridging, zkBridge provides strong liveness guarantees in addition to robust bridging safety, made possible by ZK proofs.

Hugo Philion, Flare Co-founder, said:

“Polyhedra’s zkBridge adds an additional security layer to LayerZero’s interoperability protocol and will be welcomed by Flare developers and users alike. Its integration is a sign of the growing support for Flare from cross-chain protocols and demonstrates the value of ZK technology in making it easier for value to flow freely between networks.”

Eric Vreeland, Chief Strategy Officer of Polyhedra said:

“We are excited that the Polyhedra community has voted to support the integration of Flare with zkBridge. The level of activity on Flare has been ramping up and reliable bridging protocols are the key to accelerating this while maintaining decentralization. We look forward to seeing how Flare developers utilize zkBridge to create dapps that draw data from a rich variety of multi-chain protocols.”

To securely transmit and validate block headers and consensus across several chains, zkBridge makes use of zkSNARKs. In order to facilitate cross-chain applications, it employs a two-layer recursive proof system that generates proofs quickly and has a low cost of on-chain proof verification. In particular, Polyhedra’s zkLightClient technology, which enables the effective batching of numerous transaction verifications into a single proof, significantly lowers onchain verification costs and latency.

The source chain’s validator may attest to an event that happened on their chain to a destination chain thanks to on-chain light clients. Dapps deployed on Flare, for instance, may use zkBridge to get data from other networks, which enables them to build robust cross-chain financial applications for DeFi, such as prediction markets, trading, and perps.

The integration of Polyhedra’s zkBridge facilitates the free flow of assets and data to Flare, whose TVL has hit all-time highs, while also adding an extra degree of protection to the LayerZero messaging protocol. As more people join Flare’s expanding DeFi ecosystem, the number of wallets on Flare has also crossed 1 million.
