According to Foresight News, a South Korean woman in her 30s is facing additional charges related to operating an illegal cryptocurrency gambling website in Thailand. The new charges include concealing criminal proceeds and making false accusations. Between April 2018 and August 2021, the website managed by the woman received over 24,000 bitcoins, valued at $2.3 billion, from users, including South Koreans. The platform facilitated gambling by predicting Bitcoin price fluctuations. Initially, she was sentenced to five years in prison for establishing illegal gambling and money laundering. However, after an appeal, her sentence was reduced to 2.5 years. The case is currently awaiting a decision from South Korea's Supreme Court.
