Shiba Inu (SHIB), a meme #cryptocurrency , has exceeded Cardano (ADA) in market capitalization, with values of $16.9 billion and $16.5 billion, respectively, according to CoinMarketCap. SHIB's price surged by over 16% in the past 24 hours, outpacing other major cryptocurrencies.
In comparison, Dogecoin ($DOGE ), ranked eighth by market cap, saw a modest 2.4% increase. Notably, smaller meme coins like Solana-based #dogwifhat (WIF) surged by 21.4%, surpassing SHIB's performance. Additionally, #Flokiđ„đ„ (FLOKI) and #Bonk (BONK) recorded double-digit gains, with Pepe showing an 18% increase over the past week despite a 1.1% rise.
While SHIB briefly surpassed DOGE in market cap in October 2021, it remains to be seen if it can repeat this feat this year, given the $7 billion gap between the two. Despite the recent surge, SHIB is still down 66% from its peak on Oct. 28, 2021.
Data from IntoTheBlock shows that 70% of SHIB holders are profitable at current prices, with 76% holding the cryptocurrency for over a year.
