Inspired by the adorable baby pygmy hippopotamus at Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo, the Solana meme coin moo deng (MOODENG) burst onto the scene. The meme token, named after Moo Deng, was once trading at just $0.019 per token on Sept. 20, 2024.
Fast forward to today, and it’s now swapping hands for $0.288 per MOODENG at 3 p.m. ET on Sept. 27. That’s an all-time high for MOODENG. Its meteoric rise has pushed it to the 250th largest market cap in crypto, currently valued at $266.7 million.
The loveable Moo Deng, whose name means “bouncy pork” in Thai, became a global sensation shortly after her birth in July 2024. The charming hippo rose to fame after her zookeeper posted adorable clips of her on social media, capturing hearts worldwide. Now, her image is everywhere—from memes to merchandise and advertisements.
According to Solscan, there are 989,968,252.02 MOODENG coins, with 23,151 holders of the new token. To date, MOODENG has seen 169,833 transfers, and the top holder owns 18,141,362.25 MOODENG, which accounts for 1.83% of the circulating supply.
The top five holders collectively control 6.95% of all MOODENG tokens. Whether this coin will keep its momentum remains to be seen, but with Moo Deng still trending, the token’s popularity might just endure. Like other meme coins that have popped up this year, only time will tell.
