LUCKNOW (CoinChapter.com) – Members of the XRP community, known as the “XRP Army,” are currently debating the idea of creating a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) on the XRP Ledger. Community members took to X to share their thoughts and raised concerns about Ripple’s influence over the network.
Initially, a community member with username DarkhorseDNME4 criticized Ripple Labs for maintaining control over the XRP Ledger. He argued that Ripple Labs is not providing enough value to XRP token holders. As well, the post led to a wider discussion about whether a DAO could help shift governance power from Ripple Labs to the XRP community.

Moreover, a DAO would allow XRP community members to participate directly in decision-making processes on the ledger. In such a setup, governance would be more community-driven, potentially reducing Ripple Labs’ current level of control.

Concerns Over Ripple’s Centralized Control
The discussion focuses on three main points: the potential benefits of establishing a DAO, whether projects on the XRP Ledger should pass benefits to XRP holders, and Ripple’s level of control over the network. Some community members argue that unless the community gains more control, the XRP Ledger will remain under Ripple’s centralized influence.
In his post, DarkhorseDNME4 stated:
Unless anyone can get a seat at the table of Ripple, you can’t amend the XRPL. It is not decentralized if Ripple doesn’t want it.
He criticized Ripple’s use of bots, its approach to On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) transactions, and its reliance on centralized exchanges. The member also questioned the transparency of Ripple’s decisions and called for the creation of a DAO to enable more community control over the ledger.
Counterpoints From Other Community Members
While some support the idea of a DAO, others argue that the XRP Ledger is already decentralized. Another community member with username Vet_X0 responded by saying that decentralization does not mean everyone gets what they want and that the XRP Ledger’s governance is based on a consensus model involving numerous nodes and validators.
If you don’t run a node, you don’t matter for the XRPL, and that’s a hard-coded fact—code is law.
Vet_X0 commented.
Vet_X0 also noted that developers on the XRP Ledger do not owe anything to XRP holders. He said that the debate over governance should focus on technical considerations rather than the token’s price.
Amid this ongoing debate, on-chain data has shown a notable increase in activity on the XRP Ledger. The data reveals 25% spike in active addresses between August 31 and September 2.
