The Ethereum founder believes that the concept of free token distribution in the airdrop format should be reconsidered. He proposed two options for improving the token distribution process

Airdrops have become the trend of 2024 in the crypto market. Every month, several projects issue tokens at once and distribute a part of their issue to early users. The popularization of the concept of free token distribution has led to high competition from both projects and users. Token creators are trying new forms of asset distribution. As well as+ approaches to attract users, at the same time complicating the selection criteria.

One of the new proposals to improve the process of free token distribution was shared by Vitalik Buterin, the founder of the second largest cryptocurrency.

He suggested making discounts on token sales for an active community instead of free distribution. He also noted that blockchain-based identification mechanisms could be used to screen out human-imitating bots, which are used to maximize airdrop profits.

Airdrop - a form of distributing project tokens to early users for certain actions at a designated time. Most often tokens are given out as an incentive to early users or for marketing purposes.

The first successful airdrop was held by the decentralized exchange Uniswap in 2020, when ordinary users received at least $500-1000 in the project's cryptocurrency, if assessed at the exchange rate at the time of its release.Since then, projects have realized that it's possible to attract users and capital by announcing future token giveaways in advance. So have users, who have realized that it is possible to maximize profits by creating multiple accounts.

This has forced airdrop projects to apply stricter criteria for coin allocation, which has reduced the appeal for some market participants.

According to Buterin, the two proposals could simultaneously motivate the community to use the project to capitalize on a more attractive token price. And will also give projects the proper level of protection against bots imitating the user.

The discount on the token, according to Buterin, should depend on the degree of user involvement - so the distribution of tokens will more effectively encourage those who invest non-financial effort in the development of the project. At the same time, this approach will attract more interested token buyers.

The concept of identity projects in general is simple: as artificial intelligence and process automation become more actively implemented in everyday life, it will become increasingly difficult to distinguish between humans from AI. This is precisely why we need a way to “validate the humanity” of people.

Buterin proposed to use the approach of complex “identification”, not limited to one component. The system resembles a rating system and reflects a combination of factors of reliability of the selected account and according to the description in the blog of the founder of the second most capitalized cryptocurrency. $ETH
