The “r/mtgoxinsolvency” subreddit has been flooded with reports over the past 24 hours from users who have witnessed multiple login attempts on their accounts, raising concerns about a possible cyberattack. Numerous Mt. Gox creditors have encountered difficulties logging into their accounts on the website, with some sharing screenshots documenting numerous unauthorized login attempts.

Some individuals have raised concerns that this might constitute a “brute-force” attack targeting Mt. Gox creditors, while others speculate it could be attributed to a website malfunction.
“Just received 15 notifications for account log in. Now can’t get into my account,” one Redditor captioned their post on the r/mtgoxinsolvency subreddit. “Is mtgox under attack???”

Numerous Redditors shared similar experiences, with some uncertain whether to reset their passwords after managing to log in after multiple attempts.
“It seems we are re-goxxed,” suggested one Redditor.
Others questioned the timing of the alleged hacking attempts: “Any ideas why they would raid the system now? The coins are already at Kraken.” Another Redditor highlighted that Mt. Gox restricts creditors from altering their repayment information.
Subsequent posts on Reddit indicated that the Mt. Gox website subsequently entered maintenance mode.

The defunct cryptocurrency exchange has now distributed 36% of its Bitcoin to creditors, having recently transferred over 140,000 Bitcoin, valued at nearly $9 billion, to a known cold wallet and two undisclosed addresses.
Reports that Mt. Gox was nearing completion of repayments sparked widespread concerns that its 127,000 creditors might sell billions of dollars’ worth of Bitcoin into the market last month. This contributed to Bitcoin plunging to a near-five-month low of $53,600 on July 5.
However, Bitcoin has since rebounded by 20% and is currently trading at $64,470.
