A bipartisan group of US Senators, led by Democrat Maria Cantwell, has proposed a bill to combat AI deep fakes and protect creators' rights. The bill, called the Content Origin Protection and Integrity from Edited and Deepfaked Media Act (COPIED), suggests a standardized method for watermarking AI-generated content. It also proposes guidelines that require AI service providers to allow creators to embed information about their content's originality, which cannot be removed or altered by AI tools. This move comes amid growing concerns over privacy and data violations by AI firms.
