If you're looking for a political showdown between "pro" and "anti" cryptocurrencies, you won't find a more interesting battle than the federal Senate race in Massachusetts.
The anti-cryptocurrency team includes, of course, Senator Elizabeth Warren (Democrat). She famously declared that she would create an "anti-cryptocurrency army. " Senator Warren has been in office for over a decade. Her re-election seemed inevitable, especially in the left-leaning state of Massachusetts.

Attorney John Deaton is a newcomer to the political scene with a very different take on #cryptocurrencies . Deaton is a former U. S. Marine, bald, with a goatee and muscular good looks. And he understands cryptocurrencies. I first talked to him last summer about his work on behalf of the #XRP Army. Deaton was baffled by the SEC's four-year lawsuit against #Ripple , calling it "the most extensive, far-reaching and outrageous lawsuit I've ever read about. " It doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. Deaton personally intervened in the case (filing a countersuit against the SEC), which was justified when Ripple (almost) won the case last July and the SEC later withdrew the suit.
Deaton, who has received donations from Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, co-founder Chris Larsen, and various members of the crypto community, claims that he is not an "XRP advocate" but is simply fighting government overreach. And it seems that fighting government excesses is his driving force, and #cryptocurrency is an important part of that fight. Warren, for example, has stated that he supports a government-issued central bank digital currency (CBDC). What does Deaton think? Deaton says, "If governments can control your money with programmable CBDCs - if they can turn them off and on, limit their geographic reach - then you'll have total control over people's lives. They will see where and how you spend your money.
