X Appoints Legal Representation to Comply with Brazilian Law
In line with Brazilian law, X has announced it will appoint new legal representation in Brazil. Social media platforms operating in the country are required to have a legal entity to handle such matters. This decision is crucial for the platform to continue operating in Brazil without further legal issues.
As a result of this, X can ensure compliance with local regulations and avoid future penalties. The court ruling also includes potential fines for users accessing X via VPNs, which could result in daily fines of $9,000.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes has spearheaded Brazil’s crackdown on misinformation. His recent orders to suspend accounts followed unrest allegedly stoked by fake news campaigns. Authorities confirmed this as a technical error, not an attempt to bypass the court’s orders. A spokesperson from X’s Global Government Affairs clarified that network infrastructure changes affecting other South American countries caused the situation.
X remains under strict observation in Brazil as it works toward compliance with the ongoing legal orders. Users trying to access the platform through VPNs continue to face potential fines.
