Polygon is dealing with a serious security breach just before a major network upgrade. The project's Discord channel has been compromised, raising concerns about potential phishing scams targeting users ahead of the MATIC to POL token swap.
Discord Channel Breached Polygonâs Chief Information Security Officer, Mudit Gupta, warned on X that the Discord channel has been hacked. He advised against clicking any links until the issue is resolved. This breach is particularly alarming due to the upcoming migration of MATIC to POL tokens.
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal also advised users to be cautious of suspicious links. Gupta noted that the breach occurred despite having Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in place. The exact cause of the hack is still under investigation.
Token Migration Details The transition from MATIC to POL is set for September 4, and itâs a major upgrade for Polygon. The migration will be phased, starting with swapping MATIC for POL on the PoS chain, followed by other updates.
MATIC holders on the PoS chain and those staking on Ethereum wonât need to take any action, but those holding MATIC on other platforms will need to migrate their tokens.
Despite the breach, MATICâs price remains resilient, currently trading above $0.50, showing a positive trend in the market.
