AWM was released in the latest Banff 5 upgrade of Avalanche end of the last year Up until now, Allows developers to use high-performance, interoperable blockchain network. In order to connect with and transfer assets across subnets, subnets have to create and operate their own bridging systems.
But AWM changes that completely. AWM allows for native communication between any 2 blockchains on different Subnets and makes subnets interoperable. AWM uses BLS signatures to enable any two subnets to transmit and verify arbitrary messages between themselves, resulting in a smooth and trust-reducing communication standard throughout the Avalanche ecosystem of subnets.
AWM enables Subnet Validators to collectively produce a BLS Multi-Signature that attests to the validity of an arbitrary message (e.g., transfer, contract data, etc.) that can be verified by any other Subnet. Because all Subnet Validators must validate the Primary Network via the P-Chain, they can access the stake weights and registered BLS public keys of any other Subnet at any time.
Overall AWM is an important step forward in creating a subnet powered seamless on chain ecosystem.
About Avalanche
Avalanche is a decentralized, open-source proof of stake blockchain with smart contract functionality. AVAX is the native cryptocurrency of the platform. Avalanche is the fastest, most reliable smart contracts platform in the world. Its revolutionary consensus protocol and novel Subnets enable Web3 developers to easily launch highly-scalable solutions. Deploy on the EVM, or use your own custom VM. Build anything you want, any way you want, on the eco-friendly blockchain designed for Web3 devs.
