A man from West Bengal, SK Mausad Alam, has been arrested in connection with a cyberattack on India’s largest crypto exchange, WazirX. Alam is accused of facilitating the attack by opening a fraudulent account on the exchange and selling the credentials to a third party, allowing unauthorized access.
The hackers managed to steal about $235 million in July by targeting the platform’s hot and cold wallets. The attack was initially attributed to North Korean hacker group Lazarus, but forensic investigation did not reveal any unauthorized access to WazirX’s internal systems, confirming that the attack was external.
The investigation is ongoing.
