. This incident, one of the largest recent "trap link" attacks in the cryptocurrency sector, occurred last week. The hacker returned $14 million on Friday to the victim who had lost 1155 Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC). The repayment was made in Ethereum, totaling 4676 ETH, sent in increments back to the aggrieved crypto investor.

What happened in detail? Lately, scams exploiting user carelessness in the crypto world have been increasing. In this instance, the victim intended to send 1155 WBTC to a self-created address. This address was initially made visible by a small transaction of 0.05 ETH. However, the hacker mimicked this address by slightly altering the first and last few characters, then sent a negligible amount of ETH to enter the victim's transaction history. The similarities in the addresses displayed in the transaction history confused the victim, leading them to send all their WBTC to the deceptive address, not the one they originally transacted with 0.05 ETH. This costly mistake, a result of not verifying all address characters, led to the massive $71 million loss.
