According to Odaily, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed strong support for open-source artificial intelligence, describing it as the 'way forward' for the industry. During the launch of the company's latest AI model, Llama 3.1, Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta is taking significant steps to make open-source AI the industry standard. He referred to Llama 3.1 as the first 'cutting-edge open-source AI model,' drawing a parallel between the evolution of open-source software Linux from the initially closed-source Unix and the potential future of AI. Zuckerberg suggested that open-source AI will become the industry norm.

In promoting Meta's latest AI product, Zuckerberg highlighted that Llama 3 is competitive with state-of-the-art models and even leads in certain areas. The new model is capable of conversing in multiple languages, writing higher-quality computer code, and solving more complex mathematical problems. Despite its 4.05 trillion parameters, Llama 3 still lags behind competitors like OpenAI's GPT-4, which reportedly has 10 trillion parameters.
