In a recent interview with Cryptobasic, Cliff Asness, the founder of AQR Capital, a global investment management firm, shared his bearish outlook on Bitcoin. He believes that in 10 years, many Bitcoin investors will regret their decision to invest in the cryptocurrency. Asness argues that institutional investors initially dismissed Bitcoin as a fool's gold but later succumbed to the hype in late 2024 when Bitcoin hit $100,000. He believes that this was largely due to rumors of the US government including it in its strategic asset reserve and tweets from Elon Musk. However, Asness predicts that things will be very different in 2035. He believes that Bitcoin will crash down to the $10,000 level, leaving many investors out of pocket. He also warns against investing in leveraged Bitcoin plays, such as stocks that invest in Bitcoin-related companies. He believes that these investments are akin to playing Russian roulette and will likely end in tears. Asness does concede that the only saving grace is that money will be spread across a wider universe of cryptocurrencies by 2035.
