Hey there! So, 2024 was a fantastic year for video games, giving us amazing titles such as Metaphor: ReFantazio, Astro Bot, Balatro, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Off the Grid. But we’re an optimistic bunch, and we believe 2025 can be even better. That’s the feeling we’re getting from the early lineup of games scheduled to launch this year – both sequels and brand new titles – including Grand Theft Auto 6, potentially Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and many others in between.
Hold up though – let’s focus on that for a second: GTA 6 is supposed to drop later this year, just a dozen years after its predecessor. Here’s hoping that prediction comes true! Oh, and the Nintendo Switch 2 might be right around the corner too. There’s already so much to be excited about! We’ve started highlighting the biggest hits coming our way in 2025; here are some early picks to watch out for, but remember we’ll be updating this list throughout the year as new games are revealed.
First up is Grand Theft Auto 6 with its highly anticipated release towards the end of 2025. It follows the last installment in the series which continues to draw millions of players despite being almost twelve years old. Players will visit Vice City again in a story centered around two protagonists reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde.
Rumors about cryptocurrencies making an appearance have been circulating, but nothing concrete yet. Next is Assassin’s Creed Shadows releasing on February 14th across various platforms. Developed by Ubisoft, players become Japanese shinobi Naoe and historical samurai Yasuke during Japan’s political unification process in the 16th century.
Expect lots of action! Then there’s Doom: The Dark Ages due out sometime in 2025 on multiple platforms including PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. This eighth core entry into the iconic shooter franchise shifts things slightly by introducing dragons and focusing more on melee combat while maintaining its signature humorously violent nature.
Finally catching our attention is Sid Meier’s Civilization VII arriving on February 11th across numerous platforms including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC and Switch. Lead historic figures against each other or pursue peace without causing widespread destruction – it’s your call! New features include urban title development, revamped diplomacy screens, a fresh “age” system, new civilizations emerging at different ages – oh yeah – Harriet Tubman as a new leader!
Exciting stuff! Lastly worth mentioning is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for release on Nintendo Switch although it may also appear on Switch 2 when it arrives. Initially announced back in 2017 by Bandai Namco Studios before moving hands to Retro Studios in 2019 who previously worked on earlier titles in the series…stay tuned!
Remember folks – these dates could change so always check for updates closer to launch day! Now go forth my friends & enjoy some top-notch gaming experiences coming soon!
