The Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA) has ordered World, a crypto-based digital identity project founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by implementing a data deletion protocol by January 19th. This comes after an investigation into World’s flagship technology, the World ID, which raised concerns about the handling of sensitive biometric data.

Despite previous efforts to improve compliance, BayLDA found that further adjustments were necessary. This development highlights the global privacy concerns surrounding the project and emphasizes the importance of adhering to data protection laws.
