Vancouver’s City Council has passed a motion to become a “Bitcoin Friendly City” in order to explore the potential use of Bitcoin in municipal finance. Vancouver’s Mayor, Ken Sim, has been supportive of Bitcoin, even referring to it as “the greatest invention ever in human history.” The motion seeks to understand how Bitcoin can be applied in municipal use.
Since the motion was announced in late November, Bitcoin’s value has surged and many global powers are considering implementing a Bitcoin Reserve strategy.
