🚀 Ethereum Rollback? Devs & Bybit CEO Respond to Hack Recovery Idea! 🔥 The $1.5 billion Bybit hack has sparked debates on whether Ethereum could roll back its network to recover stolen funds. But is that even possible? 🤔 🛠️ Ethereum Dev Tim Beiko: “A Rollback Isn’t an Option” Ethereum developer Tim Beiko shut down the idea, explaining that reversing transactions like in the 2016 TheDAO hack isn’t feasible and could harm the network’s stability. 🔍 Why Is This Different from TheDAO? 🔹 TheDAO Hack (2016): A flaw in a smart contract led to frozen funds, allowing time for a coordinated rollback. 🔹 Bybit Hack (2025): Attackers exploited Bybit’s multisig interface, transferring funds instantly—no freeze, no fix. Beiko also noted that Ethereum’s ecosystem has evolved massively with DeFi and cross-chain bridges, making a rollback disruptive and nearly impossible. 📜 Bitcoin & Ethereum’s History with Rollbacks To explain the concept, Beiko referenced Bitcoin’s 2010 bug, when 184 billion BTC were accidentally minted. Since Bitcoin was still young, Satoshi Nakamoto was able to fix the issue with a rollback. Ethereum itself forked in 2016 to recover TheDAO funds, which led to the creation of Ethereum Classic (ETC). But since then, the community has rejected similar proposals—like EIP-999 in 2018—to preserve the network’s immutability. 💬 Bybit CEO Speaks Out Bybit CEO Ben Zhou acknowledged the hack’s impact but emphasized that the stolen funds only represent 0.3% - 0.4% of Ethereum’s supply—far less than TheDAO’s 30% back in 2016. 💡 What’s Next?
